telnetd broken on Linux

Hello,

Ever since 0.3f (IIRC), telnetd has been broken:

[501] [scrooge:bam] ~ >telnet scrooge
Trying 192.168.87.132...
Connected to scrooge.chocbit.org.au.
Escape character is '^]'.
telnetd: All network ports in use.
Connection closed by foreign host.

Sorry, I don't have time to investigate now.

It could be due to a combination of the following reasons:

a) telnetd does not support the /dev/pts/ file system.

b) I know use devfs which put the /dev/ptyXX (if that is what it was
called) devices under /dev/pty/mXXX.
