Right, in the meantime I found another way to avoid this behaviour. Simply
running truncate_log on the master helps as well.

This is now done automatically by a cron job. OpenAFS' bosserver restarts
all servers that are under its control one time a week. After this
truncate_log will run and everything works fine.
