Moment, bitte. It seems to be dependent on compiler version. The
problematic system has gcc 3.2, while gcc 3.2.2 is able to compile
the program on another solaris machine with that also lacks flex,
GNU m4 and bison. The net result is that I can't easily reproduce 
the problem, but I'll whack the erratic system with pkgrm a bit. 

...And now, of course, it compiles, in spite of make distclean. 

Darn. I'll dig into this.
