A Mathematical Theory of Communication

Claude E. Shannon publishes A Mathematical Theory of Communication, in which he shows that all information sources can be measured in bits per second (thinking Binary digit was to long, Shannon introduced the word bit), and that a communication channel has a capacity that can be measured in the same unit. Thus the information flow from a source can be compared to the channel capacity.
