What has happened to the Free-VMS Project?? Did everyone get busy on
paying projects, Holidays or did it just die a quite death. I finally
got time to notice that I haven't received anything from the mailing
list for over two months.

I came across this list while surfing, and being a VMS fan, I thought I'd
sign up and see what people were doing. This was in October and yours is
the first e-mail I've received. Somehow I get the impression that the
project isn't terribly active.

This group mostly disappears between bursts of traffic. Usually
someone says something should be written, followed by a lot of
arguements about how it should be implemented, but nobody writes
any code. Even bad code submitted would possibly give someone
else the urge to improve it.

One possible quick fix for those wanting to play with VMS stuff
would be to help improve

	http://www.forest-edge.net/evax.html

to the point that it could run VAX/VMS. This would give experimenters
ability to try the VMS routines without having to buy an actual VAX.

I have an idle mVAX II (BA123 box) on line here that can be used for
development and would like to put another (BA23 box) up for test
purposes. The one for test will need to be striped of all the
unnecessary baggage on the disk so there will be some available space.
The present system is running VMS 5.3, but I will install a hobbyist
license and VMS 7.1 on a couple just for FreeVMS development/test.

I got an account on gville.guntersville.net, a MicroVAX, thanks to John
Ellingboe, and have decided to make a clone of DCL HELP for the Free-VMS
project. I would like to have it be able to work with the original help
files, although this is not really necessary. What is the format for them
and where are they stored on a typical VAX?
