The panoramas

2004-July-07
"A Dark Town"/"En mörk stad"
A view from the City hall tower in Stockholm of the south part of Stockholm ("Södermalm") more closely "Södermälarstrand". This was created by stitching 7 photos together. The stitch is a bit dark and I have created a lighter version for the 70x25cm print I have at home but I am not sure which version i like best. On-line I have only put the dark one.

"The Bad Stitch"
Another view from the City hall tower. This time towards the north-east/east over the central parts of Stockholm city. In this stitch there are a number of disturbing elements. The moving train has morphing traincarts and there are some half cars in the picture. Also there is a misalignment between two images that is apparent when you look at the horizon. Hopefully I will create a better stitch and adjust the layer masks to better avoid vehicles being chopped in half.

"Kista Science Tower"
This was my first stitch of this kind using my Pentax Optio 33WR. The lack of manual control makes it hard to keep the exposure even in all the sub-images and the autofocus made it troublesome. A slight misalignment on the tower should be corrected.

"Kungsholmen från S:t Eriksbron"
This stitch was made entirely by autopano and panorama tools with minimal user interaction. There is one major bad alignment which is apparent in the lines of the road closest to the photographer. This can be corrected easily by adjusting the keypoints.

"Hötorgsskraporna"
This is just a preview stitch, so the quality is not as good as the others but it is the one I like most of these quick-stitches and shows the extreme "fish-eye" effect you get with these kinds of stitches. I had to wait out the passing traffic and pedestrians so that they didn't show multiple times as in the above image.

"Engelbrekt"
Using autopano I got most of the control points correct. There is a small misalignment on the church tower.

"Dull Gray Day"
This was the first panorama created using AutoStitch. I am very impressed with the speed and accuracy of the stitch but the blending is not as good as with enblend. This was shot from the roof of Riksarkivet on Riddarholmen in Stockholm. It is stitched from 27 images and is a 360 degree panorama. The largest size is half resolution since I ran out of memory. Luckily (?) the boring weather made it easier; since it was so cloudy I could shoot into the sun, but it is rather boring and gray.

"City från S:t Eriksbron"
The first test using the Panosaurus. In the first version I forgot to set the white balance and left it in auto. But I am not sure which version I like more. I like the boats in the water, the train on the tracks and the people walking. I would like one version with all of them.

"Centralstationen"
The central train station in Stockholm. Exposure times are eight seconds. I see that autostitch is not able to correct for some distorsion in a couple of windows in seams of the upper part of the image. Next time I try something like this I will use longer exposure times (use more dense ND-filters), expose a bit more generously and pic a time when people are not as static.

"The Umbrella"
For this shot Scandic Plaza Hotel was kind enough to lend me an umbrella. It started raining almost immediately when I had set up the camera. Exposure times in the shots was one second. Quite a boring setting, especially with the rain pouring down, but I had to try it with the fountains close by.

"There is always a bridge"
View of Liljeholmen and Hornstull from the new bridge from Årsta to Söder.

"Vardagsrum"
My first ever indoor panorama. This one is a 360 degree panorama using the Panosaurus. It was made in just a couple of minutes (from photographing to stitching). It is stitched half size to keep the size down. I should find some nice interiors to create more. Looking for suitable spots.
