Noora's NaNoWriMo page

Because Terry Pratchett is right, writing is the most fun anyone can have by themselves, and because it is even more fun when 80000 other people do it at the same time.

Yes, I am one of those crazy WriMos (or NaNos, or NaNoWriMos or whatever). I've participated and won seven times.

NaNoWriMo is the "National Novel Writing Month", an annual event for writing a book in 30 days. Yes, that is correct. In November each year, people all around the world (it's not really "national") register at the NaNoWriMo website to support each other in their attempts to write a 50000 word novel in 30 days. These people are known as WriMos (or NaNos or NaNoWriMos, or just plain crazy). You can also join the fun. In October you can start registering at the NaNoWriMo homepage:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/

It's free. It's fun. It's crazy. It's open for everybody. No, I don't get anything for telling you this. It really is free and open for everybody.

Enough of the plugging of NaNoWriMo, and back to plugging me... Below you can see my notes from my participation. Enjoy!

NaNoWriMo 2008

I reached 50k quite early and easily this year. The story isn't finished however, and it is broken beyond repair so I couldn't finish it. I've written down the few thoughts I have left about it, but I think it'll have to rest for a while before I can do anything about it. Right now I have no ideas at all on how to make it work. It doesn't have a title, and no you can't read it. You can read the FAQ though.

NaNoWriMo 2007

On Thursday November 29th I validated yet another NaNoWriMo novel at 50041 words.

Up to the last minute I was uncertain that I would participate. At the kickoff in Stockholm we had a little word war for practice, and I found that I still have The Flow. It is there, below the surface, waiting for me to release it, hang on to it, use it. So I did. After some coercing I found that I could control it to do my bidding.
This year's novel is titled "Tesamella" or "Legenden om Tesamella" (I haven't quite decided yet). It will not be published in any public or semi-public place. It turned out so bad that it will not only require editing but also a complete redesign to be even remotely readable.
You can read about my my progress at my NaNoWriMo livejournal (same as last year). There's an FAQ here.

Final wordcount of NaNoWriMo 2007: 50014

NaNoWriMo 2006

On Sunday November 26th I validated "Patterns and Turmoil" at 50168 words.
"Patterns and Turmoil" is posted on my NaNoWriMo livejournal (same as last year). (Click here if you want the chapters only and not the random posts about writing). It is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Shar eAlike license. There is also an FAQ about it.

NaNoWriMo 2005

Half an hour past midnight on November 27th I validated my novel at about 51000 words. It was still not quite finished at that point. I finished the novel before the end of November at a final wordcount of 57559.
The 2005 novel is called "Sången om de två svärden", and was written in Swedish. There is of course an FAQ about it.
Thoughts have been posted on my NaNoWriMo 2005 livejournal .

NaNoWriMo 2004

Late in the evening on 2004-11-26 I validated "Att känna doften av rosor" at nanowrimo.org. This year I wrote in Swedish. The story is semi-public - if you have a LiveJournal account and ask me nicely you'll be able to read it here. I might be making it fully public when it's edited.

I have written down some NaNoWriMo 2004 thoughts and also made an FAQ

Final wordcount for NaNoWriMo 2004: 50038

NaNoWriMo 2003

I did it again. At 20.45 on Saturday 2003-11-29, I validated my second novel at the NaNoWriMo homepage. This time I scored 50123 words before validating. The story is far from finished, but I won't continue on what I have written. I will instead start rewriting the whole thing and work on the characters and plot elements before I go forward.

I won't publish this year's novel on-line. There is however an FAQ about it.

NaNoWriMo 2002

Around 21.45 CET on Wednesday 2002-11-27, I validated my novel at the NaNoWriMo homepage, having written 50053 words in 27 days. I have started editing the novel, and intend to continue editing it "as soon as I have time". I even joined NaNoEdMo 2003 hoping that it would speed up the editing. I scored about three hours, so it was what you would call a complete failure.

The novel is called "An Offworlder's Perspective", and is available for reading here on-line. You can choose whether you want to see the original version or the spell checked version. I intend to start uploading the edited version chapter by chapter "some time soon". In other words, don't hold your breath :-)
There is also an FAQ about the book.

Final hour count for NaNoEdMo 2003: 3

I shouldn't have to tell you this, but it's better to be on the safe side: "An Offworlder's Perspective" is Copyright (C) Noora Peura 2002. You may read it online, and you may even print out a copy of it for reading. You may not copy it and sell it or publish it on any media without my permission.
