Around 1765 Noah RANGE and his wife Elizabeth COONS/COENS/KONES and their family left their home in Somerset County, NJ, and migrated to York (now Adams) County, PA. Among the group were their daughters Catherine and Elizabeth who had married, respectively, Samuel BOGART and his nephew Henry BOGART. Within a few years some of the group, including both BOGART families, moved to Berkeley County, VA (now WV) and from there to East Tennessee around 1779. The father of Samuel BOGART (and grandfather of Henry BOGART) was Cornelius BOGAERT, whose family has been traced back to Dutch New York and before that to Holland (first known born 1540). Humphrey BOGART is descended from this family. There was at least one Cornelius in nearly every generation. Samuel BOGART's mother, Cornelia DELAMATER, also had a brother Cornelius, so the name is very well established in the family. According to my information, Samuel BOGART and Catherine RANGE had ten children, among whom was Cornelius BOGART, born circa 1771/1773, who died 1809. This could be the Cornelius who married Elizabeth MOFFETT in 1793, but it is also quite possible that Henry BOGART and Elizabeth RANGE had a son Cornelius.
