Sequoya was the son of a GIST and an Indian. You will read about this is
a well-documented book titled: CHRISTOPHER GIST OF MARYLAND 1679 and Some
of His Descendants by Jean Muir Dorsey. It is out of print, and I found
my copy at the Library of Congress. While I am not descended from this
individual, I do recall reading about it in this 308 page two index book.

Good luck!
Pat Richley
