I looked through the code and I can't see anything that addresses this
issue.

ipropd-slave simply dies with a "krb5_read_priv_message: End of file"
error in the logs.

Same here.

I have a very old patch from someone that adds a "retry and reconnect"
logic to ipropd_slave.c which I am trying to apply right now.
