Fleischmann model

This is about the Fleischmann ÖBB 2048, as recently sold in starter sets.

DCC

The Loco is DCC ready equiped with a decoder of Fleischmanns new kind. The decoder is a seperate part, but not in a NEM contact but placed under the motor and connected with wires to the PCB on top.

The connection of the bulbs against the chassis in conection with the usage of the decoder make the light non-workable in one direction in analog mode. In addition to that, in analog mode, it's turned off totally by decoder software. Together with the decoder's analog driving "qualities" and how it behaves under DCC when analog mode is not disabled makes this a DCC-only model.

Comparison to the old BR212

Old BR212 to the left, new 2048 on the right. There are 30+ years between the models.

In most aspects, even the light with bulbs instead of modern LED, the model is identical as the BR 212 sold by Fleischmann for many years.

Paintwork

The painting has some compromises which proably reduced the cost when the model was derived from the BR 212. No new painting masks were made for the ÖBB version.
  1. The grey area on the cab goes down until where the plastic part ends. In reality, the grey area ends at the lower edge of the window.
  2. The white border is much wider and goes around the whole loco, including into the step wells at the corners.
  3. The stanchions at the corners were first red as the rest of the body and later painted white.
I'll see if I will correct this later.
